How to Track Your Cat’s Meals and Appetite Over Time

Published October 13, 2026 · Meal Time For Pets

A feeding schedule tells you when a cat was offered food. An appetite log adds what actually happened. For cats with wet and dry food, changing preferences, or multiple caregivers, those are different questions worth recording separately.

Keep meal names and portions consistent

Create a pet profile and name scheduled meals in a way your household recognizes: morning wet food, evening dry food, or another regular feeding. Note the amount offered using the measure you normally use. When labels and units stay consistent, later entries are easier to compare.

For a multi-cat household, keep each cat’s meals on its own profile. A combined note such as “cats fed” cannot tell you which cat ate, especially when bowls are shared or one cat leaves food behind.

Record what happened, not just the reminder

After each feeding, mark the meal outcome. Meal Time supports outcomes such as fed, ate some, refused, and skipped, along with the amount eaten. A note can capture context, for example a new food or a sitter handling the meal.

A pattern is more useful than one isolated entry. Look for changes across days and bring a clear record to your veterinarian when you have a concern. The log is an observation tool; it cannot diagnose the cause of a change in appetite.

Share the same definition of done

Tell every caregiver when to record a meal and what each outcome means in your home. If food is offered but not eaten, log that accurately rather than marking the feeding as fully eaten. If a meal is delayed, add a note so the next person understands the day.

Meal Time puts meals, notes, weight check-ins, and shared care in one place. The combination can make a conversation with a vet more specific, while feeding decisions and medical questions should still follow professional guidance.

Common questions

Can Meal Time distinguish offered food from food eaten?

Yes. Meal outcomes and amount eaten let you record more detail than a simple completed check mark.

Can I use it for multiple cats?

Yes. Each cat can have a separate profile. The number of pets allowed depends on your plan.
